you're not the only one wondering
Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are the ones women ask most. If yours isn't here, reach out. I'm happy to help.
Who do you work with?
I work with adult women across Ontario, especially those navigating birth trauma, postpartum anxiety, ADHD, burnout, and the weight of being the one everyone else leans on. Many of my clients are mothers, first responders, and women in big life transitions.
Is therapy online or in person?
Sessions are currently virtual through Jane Practice, a secure platform built for therapy, so I can support women anywhere in Ontario. In-person sessions in Simcoe County are coming soon.
What do I need for a virtual session?
- A private space where you can speak freely, whether that's a quiet room, your car, or the nursery during nap time
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone
- A willingness to show up as you are, with no need to have it all figured out
How do I get started?
Book a free 15-minute consultation. It's just a conversation: no pressure, no forms, no commitment. It's a chance to see if we're a good fit before you decide anything.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?
No. You can reach out directly, and you don't need a diagnosis to deserve support. Many women come to me before they have words for what's going on.
How do I pay, and is therapy covered by insurance?
Sessions are 50 minutes. I accept credit card and e-transfer, and direct billing to extended health benefits is available.
I'm a Registered Social Worker (RSW), and many extended health plans cover psychotherapy with an RSW. Check your plan for "social worker" or "psychotherapy" coverage.
If cost is a concern, please reach out to ask about sliding-scale options.
Are coaching, supervision and workshops covered by insurance?
Parent coaching, clinical supervision, workshops, and Behavioural Activation training aren't psychotherapy, so they usually aren't covered by extended health plans. Please reach out for details.
How often will we meet?
We'll decide together what fits your needs, schedule, and budget.
What is EMDR, and is it right for me?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their intensity. It's often used for birth trauma and other overwhelming experiences. We'll talk through whether it fits your goals before we begin.
Can you diagnose ADHD?
I don't provide ADHD diagnoses, but I specialize in supporting women with ADHD, whether you were diagnosed late, are still wondering, or have known for years. If you're seeking a formal assessment, I can point you toward next steps.
Do you offer groups, workshops, or parent coaching?
Yes. I offer parent coaching, workshops and speaking for organizations, and Behavioural Activation training for healthcare providers. Group therapy is coming soon; in the meantime, you can join a group with me through MARSHA Care Inc.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. That way, the time can be offered to someone else who's waiting.
Is this a crisis service?
No. If you're in crisis or worried about your safety, call or text 9-8-8 (the Suicide Crisis Helpline, available 24/7 across Canada), go to your nearest emergency department, or call 911.
